24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 15th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time and on Friday we had the Feast – Triumph of the Cross – which reminds us that we are from the Holy Cross Parish and it is our proud and our challenge.

In Ordinary Time we got from God the question which is the most important question for our whole lives. This Question is about Jesus: who He is for us? The respond which we now formulate is maybe similar to the respond of St. Peter from today’s Gospel: you are the Messiah the Son of God. But the words of faith which we say in Holy Mass have to mirror in our daily lives by the deeds of that faith.

The Mass which we now celebrate has the two main parts: the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the knowledge and the practice of our faith. Our life as Christians has the same complexity: Theological Formulations and Life Implications.

23rd SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – Solemnity of Brotherly love

September 8th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time the Solemnity of Brotherly Love, and the Eleventh anniversary of the Tragedy of 9/11.

This Sunday gives us the example of the man who was deaf and mute, and Jesus heals him. Today’s Gospel reminds us that we are all in the same position in relation to God and to others. We need brothers who can lead us to the Church and to Jesus. We need the healing meeting with our Lord and after this we need to be the messengers of the Good News to the other people. This is our way to be the Christians in our surroundings, city and our country.

The Eucharist is the real encounter with Jesus Christ. This meeting can heal our body and soul as Jesus healed the man who was deaf. We need only to believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Church, which is the real preserver of the will of God through the ages.

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 25th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Ordinary Time, when we have more time to think about the truth of our faith, gives us also the opportunity to exempt ourselves from the participation in the gathering on the Eucharist – Holy Mass. We have more reasons to absolve ourselves, sometimes we pin the blame on the difficulties of the teaching of the Church and our lack of the understanding. Is this the true?

But true faith needs our involvement and boundless  commitment to Jesus Christ, simply saying we need to choose the Lord, because in the personal relationship with him and in the confirmation of that relation by the community of the Church we have the power to trust God, who can save us from our sins.

20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 18th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In Ordinary time we do things by which we better understand the truth of our faith. It is very hard to comprehend the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. When we hear the words of Jesus that He is the real bread and wine and after this we eat this food and drink this beverage, we look for an answer to this difficult comparison. And we find only the dogma of faith that he is real in the sacrament of the Eucharist after transfiguration of the bread and wine into the body and the blood of Jesus Christ.

Here and now we participate in the Eucharist, which nourish our present and eternal life. We need the understanding of the mystery of our faith, because it has real consequence in our daily and eternal lives.

19th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

August 11th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is the time when we do ordinary things and we are expected to be only ordinary people. This is the best time for thinking about matters, which need a special consideration, as the spiritual matters are. But we need also the careful mind to recognize the things and the people /which are the extraordinary. In that time there are situations when we deeply think and then correctly recognize it.

The Holy Mass is one of that situation, we have the Liturgy of the Word when we consider the truth of our faith and we have the Liturgy of the Eucharist when we recognize our Lord and Master Jesus Christ in the form of bread and wine, which comes from heaven to feed us. We need only to be there present and involve in that situation with our heart, mind and all our forces.

Reflections

1 If you were one of the Jews and you knew well about Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph and Mary, what would be your reactions when you heard: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven?”
2 Recall your first Holy Communion, how did you feel when you received the Eucharist for the first time? Later on, do you still have the same feeling each time you receive the blessed Sacrament?
3 Why do we believe the Eucharist is really Jesus’ flesh?

13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

June 30th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In this time we are touched by Jesus and his teachings. Today’s Gospel tells us about people in tragic situations: an account of a synagogue official Jairus, desperate because of the illness and death of his little daughter and the lady with the hemorrhage.

We are also in similar situation, and we ask: Why does God permit people to suffer such horrible things? Ultimately, we have only one answer – to come to Jesus Redeemer and ask him of healing not only physical but also spiritual.

In the Mass we really come to Jesus. He can touch us and rise us up if we only will be here. The offering of the Eucharist is the special place where we find the great love of God to us by the gift of life and death of his Son. And we follow his footsteps in our private lives by showing our love to others and touch them by our good deeds and prayers.

12th Sunday in Ordinary Time Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist

June 23rd, 2012 § 1 comment § permalink

Today we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. Today’s Mass takes precedence over the regular Sunday Mass, which this year would be the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. It takes precedence because in the Church’s liturgical calendar there are only three nativities that are celebrated, the birth of Christ, the birth of His mother Mary, and today’s nativity, the birth of Jesus Christ’s cousin, John the Baptist.
In the Church’s calendar these three births are exceptional.

Today John is born. Today we pay special attention to one who was filled with the Holy Spirit in the womb of his mother, even before he was born. In all of Scripture there were only three who were filled with the Holy Spirit in the wombs of their mothers prior to being born – Jesus, Mary, and John the Baptist.
The Eucharist is the time when we come to be filled with the Holy Spirit. We become as St. John the witnesses and preachers of Jesus Christ in our daily lives. We need the power of faith to be worthy of this grace.

11th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME & Father’s Day

June 16th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the 11th Sunday in Oridinary Time also the Father’s Day.

On this Father’s Day we are praying for our dads, whether they are near or far away, living or deceased, and especially for the dads here in our congregation. We want them become the fathers on the pattern of our Heavenly Father.

The 11th Sunday of Oridinary Time is not so popular in our calendar because I celebrate it 1 time here in our parish (let me say 11 years we don’t have that Sunday – this year because Easter was very early we got it). The message which this Sunday has is very important even we don’t hear it so often. It is that the Kingdom of God or our faith in God comes from small thing which seems to be insignificant. But God is in control of that He gives us the power to grow and He only he is the source of that inner power.

The Eucharist which we now celebrate is the special prayer to our Heavenly Father which we are doing by and with his Son Jesus Christ. We can say that Every Mass is like Father’s Day to God, because we reverently worship God who is our Father.

One Main Point

The reign of God will grow to its fullness, despite all obstacles.

 Reflections

  1. Recall a small beginning that has blossomed into fruit–a change in someone close to me that I did not expect, a change in my own attitude or outlook of life. How patient am I with myself? with others? How easily do I give up?
  2. How do I view the church today? Disappointed, anxious, frustrated? How should I view the church?

Today we celebrate the solemnity of the most holy Body and Blood of Christ – popular we call it theCorpus Christi. When we come every Sunday for Eucharist we can be sure that this is the real meeting with our Savior Jesus Christ.

The symbols, the gestures, the music, and the form of our worship are all here to unite us. We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. We are liberal, conservative, and indifferent. We are old and young, male and female, married and single, traditionalists and innovators, saints and sinners, guardians of the past and social revolutionaries. All of us are here forming the Body of Christ by receiving His Body and Blood in Holy Communion. We are here to be sent out those doors to be Christ’s very presence here on earth. Trinity Sunday

June 2nd, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity; popular we say Trinity Sunday. This Sunday is the time to contemplate the Mystery of our Faith which is the belief in one God in the three different persons. We believe in God the Father Creator of the whole world, we believe in God the Son who entered into our history as a man and we believe in God the Holy Spirit who is keeping us in His care and is leading us to the full salvation in theKingdomofGodin heaven.

To be the real Christians we have to believe in the Trinity and we have to immerse into God’s Mystery to understand as far as we can this truth  and under this influence pray to God.

The Eucharist which we now celebrate is the special service to honor the Trinity as St. Thomas a Becket did first time in 12th century. We pray to God the Father by the mediation of Jesus Christ in the influence of the Holy Spirit. We call God in the inconceivable  Trinity to make the community of love between us and God.
