26th  Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Today Jesus gives us the example of the two bad sons. Which of the two boys would you have as an ideal son: the one who bluntly says no to his father’s face and does the job afterwards or the one who says yes and does not follow up on it? The answer is none of the above. Ideal sons and daughters are those who say yes to their parents and then go on to do what is commanded. This is what we should aim to be – men and women who profess our faith in words and deeds.

The Eucharist helps us to be the good sons and good daughters. Here we response to the God our Father – Yes, Amen; here we start to do God’s will and we promise that we will do it very well.

“Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.”

One Main Point

The response to Jesus is critical. Those who truly do the will of God will enter the kingdom.

Reflections

  1. Listen to Jesus saying to me, “Son, go and work in the vineyard today.” What is the vineyard, and what work does Jesus invite me to do?
  2. Examine my good deeds. Are they more external like the son saying yes (which is good and important), or are they following what God wants me to do?
