Today we celebrate the 5th Sunday of Easter. The Easter Sundays show us the main important base for our faith. It shows us the main rule of Christianity the love to the other people by the example of Jesus Christ.
The last supper discourse of Jesus to his apostles which we will hear in today’s Gospel; is a mix of many consoling things Jesus had said to them in the course of their time together so that they might be sustained in hope after he had returned to the Father-in-Heaven.
The consolation today is mixed with a challenge – a new commandment which sounds nice, but which turns out to be very difficult. For as we know from the experience of our lives it is very hard to love everyone, especially those who are closest to us, our colleagues, our family members, our close friends, the people next door and of course the enemies.
The Eucharist which we now celebrate is the power for the practice of the new commandment in our daily lives. We have to utilize it for our own goodness.
