1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT – Hope Sunday

Today we celebrate the first Sunday of Advent, the beginning of the new Church calendar. Each year we start the same liturgical year, with the same feasts and the same periods, but we changed ourselves day by day. Thus we start the new liturgical year 2013, now. The topic or the mission statement for this year is: “Lord, All of my hope is in you!”– it means that we need put our whole hope and desire only in Jesus Christ, don’t believe and don’t look for different savior or news which make us far away from God.

The Eucharist is the time when we discover that Jesus Christ is really present and he teaches us how to meet him in our hearts. We need to extend this situation which we call meeting with the Lord for the rest of our daily time.

An advent wreath can help us to get back the real “Spirit” of the Advent season.

(The Advent wreath reminds us that Jesus is the true source of joy. The circular shape of the Advent wreath denotes that God’s Love for us will never end; it is everlasting. The evergreen is an ancient symbol of victory and glory. The lighting of the candles each week another is also very symbolic. For centuries, it has been a religious practice to represent Jesus, our Lord, by a burning candle “I am the light of the world”. Each week we light another candle to mark our faith journey into our own Advent.)
