28th Sunday in Ordinary Time; Feast of Christian Family

christianfamily4Today we celebrate the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time and the feast of the Christian Family in our Polish National Catholic Church. Our daily lives are always around Family. For more people the family is at the first place in the life. The ideal of the Family is the Christian Family and we have to find the way for it if we want to have perfect family. The big Christian Family is simply the Church who has the own father which is God the Father and own – Mother Blessed Virgin Mary and own brothers and sisters where Jesus Christ is our first and perfect brother. For that family we have to make thanks first of all to our parents these on earth and these in heaven, that they introduced us to the Church.

The Eucharist is the thanksgiving to God our Father for all the blessings which He was and is giving to us. We thank for our lives, we thank for our parents, we thank for our children and grandchildren. Every time the Mass is good opportunity to make these thanks, and I encourage you to do this follow the example of the Samaritan leper from today’s Gospel.

 Reflections

  1. The story of the ten lepers raises one question “Why the other nine lepers did not return to give thanks and praise to Jesus?” Try to search in your heart to come up with an answer.
  2. Thanksgiving is a dominant note in Jesus’ prayers. You can see the joy in the Samaritan leper and the salvation he has gained. Have you experienced the joy and the salvation whenever you say thanks or praises to the Lord?
  3. Glorifying God is a way to say thanks to Him. A Marian gratitude filled with wonder “The Mighty One has done great things for me and Holy His Name” is a good example to follow. How often do you praise God for what He has done for you, including the ones you appreciated and the ones you did not expected to happen?

One Main Point

Glorifying God is a way to say thanks to Him. Gratitude is itself an act of faith. The salvation the Samaritan leper has gained from his act of faith is clearly more than his physical healing.
