Love – 4th SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Born of the Father’s LOVE

Today we celebrate the 4th Sunday of Advent. This Sunday is the Sunday of Love, by that we remember great love which God our Father gave us – and this special gift from God is Jesus Christ Emmanuel – God with us.

Today we will hear the Matthew’s Gospel in which he presents his account of Jesus’ divine origins. Unlike Luke, Matthew tells the story from the perspective of Joseph. It is Joseph who is distressed over Mary’s pregnancy and it is he who has a dream, which resolves this matter. As one who hears God’s message in a dream, Joseph is connected with the patriarch Joseph who communicated with God in dreams (Gen 37:1ff), because Matthew is intent on showing how the Hebrew Scriptures were fulfilled in the story of Jesus the Messiah.
The Eucharist is the great thanksgiving to God for his perfect gift of love for us, which is Jesus Christ. When we come for the Holy Mass we step in the mystery of God’s presence. We feel that presence both physically and spiritually in every Eucharist, especially in the Word of God when He speaks to us and in the Holy Communion when He is joined to us in way of our own senses.

“Joseph… took his wife Mary into his home.”
