14th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME; Independence day

Today we celebrate the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time and we celebrated the Independence Day.

It is a day to remember with gratitude the founding fathers of our republic, especially, Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, and James Madison, the architect of the Constitution, who believed that all power, including political power, came from God and was given to the people who entrusted this power to their elected leaders.

This Sunday gives us the example of Nazareth’s people unbelieving in Jesus and His power to do miracles in their own lives. The familiar of Jesus and the closeness with the Church leads us to be in a rut.

We have to seek in each Eucharist, especially in todays, the new ways for our daily lives. We have to look for the newness of our faith to be glad and elated.

One Main Point

Jesus, the teacher and miracle worker, is misunderstood and rejected by his own people.

Reflections

  1. Who have been the prophets to me, speaking the words of God? Did I misunderstand and reject the prophets? What do God say to me through the prophets? How do I respond?
  2. Through the sacraments of baptism and confirmation, we are also anointed to be prophets. What evil do we see and criticize in our own world? What hope do we see and encourage people with? Are we ready to be misunderstood and rejected by our own folks, like Jesus?
