16th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Today we celebrate the 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time. When we look at the readings during Ordinary Time we consider very exactly our daily lives. And in today’s Gospel we see from one site the need for a rest; and from the other the obligation to change our plans, because some person needs our help. When we work and work and we have no time for a rest we are twice as tired. Jesus wants for us the normal life and he gives us the time to rest as a vacation or a free weekend. But when we have some people who need some help we have to be like our master Jesus Christ who “was moved with pity for them and he began to teach them many things.”

The Eucharist is the place to rest a while. Here and now we get from our Lord the simple directions for our lives and we get the spiritual food for the way, which is before us. Our commitment in the Eucharist is like a ride on the boat to some quiet place to rest, but after this we have to come to the real life and find our neighbors to help them.

“Jesus and the disciples went off in the boat by themselves.”

I have an instinct that tells me that I am less free when I am living for myself alone. The reason for this is that I cannot be completely independent.” (Thomas Merton – No Man is an Island)
  • MY MISSION: When I am the disciple of Christ and the member of his Church I realize this and participate in all matters which concern Him. The Ordinary Season and the Sunday’s Masses are not my challenge but my privilege.
