5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time is our time in the complete time of the Church. We are the basis of that period, and we have to take responsibility for it.

We have the individual call to do things which Jesus’ command to us in our parish, but we have to recognize this by prayer and activate our lives to fulfil it. God’s invitation to each of us to participate with him in bringing his message of salvation to all mankind is the fact. The only baggage needed in following his call is to put our trust in him and do good things which he requires from us.

The Eucharist, which we now celebrate, is the first and good step to realize our call in today’s world, as St. Peter did in his life. We have the mission of the evangelization of our relatives, friends and neighbors, which we have to fulfil. We have to follow Peter’s example from the Holy Bible and make the statement, that we are sinful people, and we are unworthy to do this; but if God wants from us to do this job/ we have to be obedient to His divine will.

  • The annual meeting of the members of Holy Cross parish will be conducted Sunday, February 20, 2022, right after 10:00AM Mass.
  • Evangelization is in no small part about accessibility. Make your parish accessible; make the extra effort. Like the young Samuel, let your first priority be a basic one: Open the temple doors.
  • Conscience is the summary of the whole man, although a man is much more than an animated conscience. Conscience is the indication of hidden things, of imperceptible acts and tendencies that are much more important than itself. It is the mirror of a man’s depths. The reality of a person is a deep and hidden thing, buried not only in the invisible recesses of man’s own metaphysical secrecy but in the secrecy of God Himself.(Thomas Merton – No Man is an Island)

Even as a father and his child enjoy being together, so I must have this intimate fellowship with God each day.

Reflections

  1. How would we respond when Jesus chose to come on board our boat and instructed us to cast out our nets for a catch?
  2. Would we be ready to give up everything like Peter, James and John to do what God’s calling involved?
  3. What did Jesus perceive when he said to Simon “do not be afraid,” why did he say that? What could we be afraid of?
