SOLEMNITY OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD

Baptism1Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the first Sunday of the Ordinary Time.

When Jesus asked John the Baptist to be baptized in the Jordan, just as John had baptized the other people. Jesus saw that his task was to save people from their sins and change the world. He himself was without sin, but he made himself one with the people in their weakness. And then God confirmed him in his task by saying: “This is my beloved Son.”

When we were baptized, we expressed, through our parents and godparents, that we had become one with Jesus and with his mission. Since that day we share with Jesus in his task of serving and saving the people. If we do so, then God can tell us too: “you are my beloved son or daughter.”

The Holy Eucharist is the manifestation of our own baptism individually and collectively. We meet with Jesus who forgot our sins in our baptism and we meet with the community of other Christians who affirm us as brothers. After this meeting we start our outside manifestations for non-Christians and the Christians who are not-active; to show them love of the God our Father in us.

One Main Point

Jesus of Nazareth is revealed directly by His Father to be the Son of God. Jesus is the voice we should listen to.

Reflections

1 Placing myself at the Jordan river, I imagine that I am standing in line with the penitents of Israel. How do I feel, knowing that Jesus stands in the same line with me? 2 In my life, I am exposed to the teachings of many conflicting groups. Whose teachings has influenced me in my actions?
