5th SUNDAY OF EASTER

KatynMemorial1Today we celebrate the 5th Sunday of Easter. The Easter Sundays show us the main important base for our religion. It shows us the main rule of Christianity the love to the other people on the way of Jesus Christ.

The last supper discourse of Jesus to his apostles which we will hear in today’s Gospel; is a mix of many consoling things Jesus had said to them in the course of their time together /so that they might be sustained in hope after he had returned to the Father-in-Heaven. The consolation today is mixed with a challenge – a new commandment which sounds nice but which turns out to be very difficult. For as we know from the experience of our lives it is very hard to love everyone, especially those who are closest to us, our colleagues, our families, our close friends, the people next door and the enemies.
The Eucharist which we now celebrate is the power for the practice of the new commandment in our daily lives. We have to utilize it for our own goodness.

One Main Point

We are to love because Christ has loved us and as Christ loved us.

Reflections

1 Jesus’ disciples have proven their love for their non-Christian fellows by enduring the hardships and even death while bringing the Gospel to Jews and Gentiles. Has my love for others been tested?

2 Who does Jesus command me to love, and how?

3 Is your community of faith (or group) clearly a community of love in Christ?
