26th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Today we celebrate the 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time. When we look at our daily lives we see that God is working in them with different people and rules. In today’s gospel, John asks Jesus the question: How can the strange persons drive out demons, they’re not disciples of Jesus. John tells Jesus, stop them. Here’s the problem: we do the same thing – We Think We’re Right. Because someone does not pray the way we pray, does not talk about God the way we talk about God, we think they’re wrong, or at least a little weird.

The most important thing for us today is to recognize the rules of working God in our private or public lives and to choose good future for us in heaven.

The Eucharist, which we now celebrate, is the special searching of God’s will in our daily lives. The Word of God, to which we listen, is a special kind of knowledge about it; the Liturgy of the Eucharist is the return of our love to God and to our neighbors.

One Main Point

Jesus instructs his disciples about how to be a witness of Christ. It involves tolerance for those who are not members of the Church: “whoever is not against us is for us” (v.40). At the same time, Jesus advocates intolerance for sin, as this is a matter of life versus death.

Reflections

1. In my daily life, where have I given bad example to others and thus “leading them astray?”

  1. Which are the occasions, the situations that tend to lead me to my oft-repeated sins? How willing am I to avoid these tempting occasions/situations?
