22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today we celebrate the 22nd, Sunday in OT. Clearly our focus today is on humility. Humility has probably never been popular for anyone, even for the best of saints. On the other hand, lots of saints have practiced humility simply by always putting the well-being of others ahead of their own well-being.

Humility does not mean acting humble but actually being humble and drawing no attention to ourselves. This is why generally truly humble people are loved so much. They make life easier for all of us, they take up the burdens and responsibilities of community /without drawing attention to themselves and they serve others with joy.

The Eucharist which we now celebrate is the divine banquet for all of us. Here and now, we meet Jesus who is our Savior and Lord. Holy Mass is the key to the narrow gate of heaven. Are we now willing to accept humiliations for the sake of loving God and others?

„Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled

The soul that picks and pries at itself in the isolation of its own dull self-analysis arrives at a self-consciousness that is a torment and a disfigurement of our whole personality. But the spirit that finds itself above itself in the intensity and cleanness of its reaction to a work of art is ”self-conscious” in a way that is productive as well as sublime. (Thomas Merton – No Man is an Island)

Let this be my chief object in prayer, to realize the presence of my heavenly Father. Let my goal be: “Alone with God.”

(Andrew Murray – Treasures of Wisdom)

Welcome Our Visitors

We welcome all our visitors who are present with us for worship this Sunday! Please introduce yourself to the Pastor after Mass. Please write your names in the guest book located in the vestibule of the church. Please remember that you are always welcome to join us in worship at Holy Cross Church.

One Main Point

Humility is not a matter of putting ourselves down, but humility is recognizing that we are nourished, gifted by God and then reaching out to others in the same way.

 Reflections

  1. In which way am I nourished and gifted by God?
  2. Out of this gratitude, how have I reached out to others to share what God gives them through me?
