1st SUNDAY OF LENT

lentToday we celebrate the 1st Sunday of Lent. The Lenten Season is the time of preparation for the feast of Easter, the anticipation of our own Resurrection.

The Lent is the time when we concentrate on our own integrity as a person who is both spiritual and physical. By the deeds of Lent which are: fast, almsgiving and prayer we are looking in our inside to find our covenant with God, to find our private sanctuary between us and God.

Each Eucharist is the remembrance of the Easter. Every time when we celebrate the Mass we go on in the deepest Mystery of our Faith which are the suffering, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During Lent season we use purple color as a typical color of the penance. We omit the Gloria and the Alleluia word during the Mass /to hear the full Glory and the Joyful Alleluia on Easter Sunday. The Lent season is like the examination of the conscience during the Mass, and is good to do it right now.

One Main Point

Jesus’ victory over the devil. Luke presents Jesus precisely as the kind of person John the Baptizer predicted: the “more powerful one” (3:16)

Reflections

  1. What have you found most helpful in Jesus’ victory over temptation?
  2. If the Devil could identify your three greatest weaknesses, what would they be?
  3. In your prayer, be with Jesus, imagine His physical weakness and His strong determination to obey His Father’s will.
